Significant Amendments to the Electricity Market Storage Activities Regulation
Today’s publication in the Resmi Gazete introduces the Amendments to the Electricity Market Storage Activities Regulation, bringing significant changes to energy storage operations, hybrid generation facilities, and independent electricity storage units.
Amendments to the Electricity Market Storage Activities Regulation include:
✅Article 5: The energy supplied to the grid by electricity generation facilities with integrated storage units or hybrid storage power plants cannot exceed the total installed electrical capacity of the units that have received provisional acceptance for each settlement period. This amendment aims to enhance grid security and improve capacity planning.
✅Article 7: Entities holding a supply or aggregator license can now establish one or more independent electricity storage facilities, each with a minimum installed capacity of 2 MW. The energy these facilities supply to and withdraw from the grid will be included in the relevant market participant’s settlement quantities. This change enhances flexibility in energy trading and promotes the efficient use of storage solutions.
These amendments will come into effect on January 1, 2025, and their implementation will be overseen by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA).
By improving the efficiency of energy storage solutions and facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid, these changes are set to drive transformation in the energy sector. At Pomega, we are committed to leveraging these new opportunities and continuing to lead the way in energy innovation.
